11/12 run in Boston

arrived in Boston on my birthday.  first meeting with Aili June Cohen. Finally had first run in 3 days this morning along the Charles.  a bit misty but not raining.  4.5 miles.  felt ok though just plodding along.  Then spent the day with Sara and Aili and Ro and some with TJ.  And Luc of course.

Nice to be in Boston.  At the Hotel Tivoli near Harvard Square.  Cute little hotel that feels very European.  Small room but it's working ok.  Will try to run in the morning again.  Still doesn't feel like I'm that serious about the marathon training thing.  Certainly not eating very well.

Wednesday November 4

coldest day so far.  Up in Portland
saw a man catch a giant sturgeon before leaving the condo.
lulu lemon light pants, hat and mittens along the river front to the OHSU Dental School and back.  last two miles 8:15 and 8:08.  Felt ok doing them.
Still overeating!

Oral surgeon finally called and set up appointment for Friday morning.

TJ's dad died yesterday.  At least he waited to meet his grandchildren and have one last visit with Luc.  Pretty sad though.

week 1 day 3

Up early and to Courthouse for my "symmetric" workout--everything using both sides of me at the same time.  Hate those pull-ups!  Then up to Portland for a run before heading into the office.  4 miles around Portland.  Temp in the high 40s; no rain.  A bit stiff.

Still not very good eating/nutrition.  Will weight myself next Monday!  Ok, still have to work.

and thankful I'm still able to run!

2nd run

went out for a run mid-morning.  HR monitor on this time.  Ran 4 miles.  Last mile was 8:31 so overall just under 9 minute pace.  Felt ok.  Wore Boston shirt which is a bit too warm for me once I'm going.  Wore Adidas Boosts, the black ones.  These are the tentative marathon shoes.

Monday-Sunday runner so just the beginning of this week.  Might put runs on Excel spread sheet but don't want to over obsess, just the right amount of it.  Track runs with Garmin watch.  Still haven't decided about getting a coach again...a bit expensive.

Boston Marathon training begins

started training on 11/1
first things:
set a goal for the Marathon:
under 3 hours 30 minutes (8 minute miles)   (SMART aim:  on April 18, 2016, I will run the Boston Marathon in 3 hours 29 minutes 59 seconds or less.
measures:
# runs/week
miles/week
steps/day
long run each week
miles below marathon pace goal/week
number of upper body/core work outs/week (goal 2); cross training things/week
weight (Mondays).  % body fat (monthly)
calories/day (starting 11/2 and using my fitness pal)
balance:
injuries

First training run was 11/1:  ran for an hour, 6.5 miles.  fell in the first mile running along Mission in Salem.  Great beginning but just some road rash and kept going.  Captured on my Garmin.  First month plan is to increase my weekly miles consistently.  Not worry too much about distance at any one run.  I ran a 1/2 marathon on 10/25 in Portland.  not that fast but good enough.  Ultimately, I would like to be doing about 50 miles/week by March.
